The reasons behind using CCTV are broad, for business or residential installations the reasons usually come down to detection, identification and protection.
Detection is vital to triggering a recording or an alert. For example, sending an email when movement is detected in a certain area, between a certain timeframe.
Identification Sticking some CCTV in is fine, but it resulting in a useful image in the case of legal evidence can be quite rare. This is why it is essential to get the installation setup perfectly, to ensure you capture images with optimal angles and lighting. If you have CCTV without providing a clear image with the ability to identify persons or number plates, then ultimately there’s not much point.
Protection Having a functional and fully calibrated CCTV system ultimately is for protection, be it people, premises or both, its there to keep everything safe, by capturing accidents, criminal activity or simple misbehavior, the critical aspect to that protection is recording the evidence.
